The electric vehicle industry is growing all around the world with new product announcements about EV’s, batteries, Giga factories and more daily.  So here are some of the EV’s that are making news around the world to get you caught up on the biggest movements in the EV industry. These news stories were collected by the staff at TintDepot that is always looking to see how to reduce pollution, conserve energy and help get cleaner air to breathe for all.

  • Tesla Electric Vehicle News
    • Tesla has produced over 90 electric Semi Trucks as they continue to test them around the world. Tesla Semi recently made over 1,000 trip hauling things.  Tesla Semi regularly hauls batteries from Nevada Gigafactory 1 to CA assembly plants (Mega batter plant & Fremont car factory). Tesla still considers the semi production as prototypes. They need to continue to improve them; then find a factory to build them. Will it be in NV, CA, TX or elsewhere?
    • CyberTrucks are slowly being produced. There seem to only  be prototype electric trucks for now. Hopefully, production starts soon. There seem to be over 2 million reservations for the electric CyberTruck
    • Tesla has launched their cheapest model Y to date at $44,000. It’s a one motor EV
    • Tesla has cut prices again on the Model 3 & Model Y. The cheapest model 3 is now $38,990
  • US EV Updates
    • Rivian is now producing 3 different EV’s: the R1T, Amazon Van (Electric Delivery Van – EDV) and now the R1S
    • Ford e-Mustang goes on sale in Australia
    • Lucid delivers the first Air Sapphire model EV’s in the US with tri-motors
  • China EV Updates
    • China new vehicle sales have EV’s at 39% market share.
      • EV sales S curve is a real thing! This was predicted by Tony Seba in 2016 (or before). Based on Wright’s Law, for every doubling of production of EV’s (batteries) there is a % decline in cost & improved efficiency.
    • BYD makes gains in their growth and is the largest EV brand in China, Tesla is #2
    • BYD is entering more markets around the globe, watch out legacy makers
    • A new EV Hyper super car has launched, the GAC Aion in China and goes 0 to 100 in 1.9 seconds. Deliveries have begun and the starting price is above $176,000 to get your hands on this Hyper car. Don’t forget to add PPF and ceramic auto tint from TintDepot to keep it looking awesome and to block the heat from the sun
    • XPeng Motors launches their G9 SUV in China
  • Japan Hybrid EV Updates
    • Nissan & Mitsubishi are losing huge market shares in China. China is the largest car market in the world. Mitsubishi sold about 140,000 vehicles in 2020 in China, but only about 30,000 so far in 2023; they have announced that they are leaving the China market. They failed to make compelling EV’s for the market and now had to leave. China warned all auto mfgs that they had to make EV’s years ago. Japan Car Inc. did not listen.
    • Kawasaki launches their first electric motorcycle in US and elsewhere which includes the Ninja e-1 at $7,599 and z e-1 in 2024 at $7,299 (as per Electrek). The e-bikes use two 1.5 kWh battery packs for a total of 3kWh on board. The batteries weigh 25 pounds and can be charged from a standard wall electricity plug in less than four hours
    • Once again, Toyota has come up with lots of plans for EV’s in the future, but don’t have many EV’s to buy. Will they be left behind?
    • Isuzu automaker announced that they will produce an electric pickup truck, the D-max EV, in Thailand that will go to Europe first. No date on when and no pricing information.
  • Other EV News: Europe & Vietnam
    • Norway new car sales have EV’s at 93% market share! Wow, that’s huge
    • VinFast is showcasing four EV’s at Qatar’s car show that include: VF 6, VF 7, VF 8 and VF 9. $VFS stock was recently listed in the US and shot up to the $80 and $90’s but is listed around $7.50 today. Super risky stock’ it’s like gambling.
    • EV’s now make up 18% of all vehicles sales globally; this is considered the “disruption” zone where the sales S curves spikes up and other tech faces sales crises (ICE.) BYD has 21% market share while Tesla has 14% market share. However BYD sales include hybrid & pure EV while Tesla is 100% EV (no hybrids).
    • Porsche launches the efantom electric boat; it’s a production model
