Can sunroof glass explode if you tint it?

Answer 1: Many people have tinted many sunroofs with no issues reported.   Answer 2: Interestingly enough, sunroofs can explode whether they have been tinted or not. Therefore, if a sunroof explodes it may not be due to the window film, but rather the inherent qualities of the sunroof glass.    Answer 3: Some tinters seem to have issues with specific car manufacturers or models. For example, some tinters believe that Honda sunroofs are especially prone to exploding.    Answer 4: This is mainly an issue with older sunroofs. Years back, sunroofs relied on technology based on reflective coatings. These types of windows would almost certainly explode if given a 5% tint. Today, the technology of sunroof glass is quite sophisticated, and they are much less likely to explode. However, you should still avoid mixing reflective and non-reflective windows/tints.    Answer 5: Sometimes exploding glass is caused by air pressure rather than any issues with window film.    Answer 6: When applying film, close the sunroof completely and make sure you lock it into place. If you fail to do this, you may break the actuator arms when squeegeeing. This is one of the few times when the sunroof is at risk of being broken in some way.    Answer 7: This is one of the biggest myths floating around the window tinting industry. Sunroofs are made from tempered glass, which means that they will virtually never explode. Past “explosions” might have been the result of tiny impacts from rocks, which can cause a window to lose more than 50% of its structural integrity.
