The lower the Shade, the darker (more reflective) the film.

5% Dark (very reflective)
15% Dark (reflective)
35% Medium (less reflective)
45% Light (minimal reflection)

Note: The “One-way mirror effect” on the glass works much like regular glass. During the day, powerful light emission from the sun creates the mirrored exterior look through reflection, making it difficult to see inside. At night, this effect is lessened.

The best solution is to install an exterior light that shines on the film. Silver 5% or 15% along with a second layer of non-reflective/automotive film 5% on top of the reflective layer.  {The lower the #, the darker (more reflective) the film, is our recommendation for top-notch privacy.

Question:
How to get the best “Mirror” effect with plain clear glass using window film?

Answer:
It is all about the lighting! There are two options:

  • Option 1: Dual Reflective Ceramic 5%
  • Apply Dual Reflective 5% to clear glass.
  • Apply a second layer of TintDepot’s NR CH 5% inside the building
  • Add additional lighting outside (where you want the “mirror” effect)

Option 2: Silver Reflective 15% (Or Silver Reflective 5%)

  •  Apply Silver Reflective  15% to clear glass.
  • Apply a second layer of TintDepot’s NR CH 5% inside the building on top of the
silver reflective film ( Some people add a 3 rd layer of NR CH 5% for an even better effect)
  • For the nighttime “mirror effect;” add additional lighting outside (where you want the
“mirror” effect) such as a floodlight to hit the window.

Getting the “one-way mirror” effect is all about the lighting.  Keep the light intensity higher on the

exterior side of the film to maximize privacy.

Due to Thermal Stress being much higher in high altitude areas / mountainous climates similar to Colorado, be very careful with window film. The lower the solar absorbance of the film, the lower the risk of thermal stress. Partially shaded windows have more thermal stress, especially at dawn when the sun rises on a cold morning.

All window films can add more thermal stress and mountain climates have proven to be precarious due to the wide temperature swings.

Install at your own risk.
